Richard Clarkson is an inaugural graduate of the 2014 MFA Products of Design program at the School of Visual Arts. Since graduating, Clarkson has founded an experimental product, lighting & furniture studio based in both Brooklyn and his homeland of New Zealand. The studio's keystone product is an arduino-powered, smart, speaker/lamp simply called "The Cloud", which was originally designed as part of his SVA coursework. The studio is quickly expanding and now offers a range of services in consultancy, product & experience design by providing innovative perspectives on traditional material ideologies, new technologies and adventurous opportunities.
Clarkson's presentation at the Visible Futures Lab will explore his body of work, his experiences at SVA while designing and building "The Cloud", and his plans for the future of his studio. Anyone interested in the details of Richard's work or thinking of starting their own design/art studios are encouraged to come and participate in the discussion.
