T-Shirt Workshop with Mary Huang

It turns out making a t-shirt is a lot of work! But it's also a lot of fun. Mary Huang introduced the students attending her workshop to the art of crafting clothes. Everything starts with a pattern traced around a pre-existing (perfectly) fitting t-shirt. Fabric is cut to size and sewed with a coverstitch sewing machine to create a professional and long-lasting seam.
 If you want to make a t-shirt your own, here are some tips:
  • To make sure the t-shirt pattern is symmetrical fold it in half before you cut it
  • Make sure that there are no wrinkles in your fabric
  • If you use the pins to connect the two pieces of fabric (the front and back sides of the t-shirt) outside-in is easier to remove during sewing (see image below)
  • To create the neckline sew a piece of fabric into a circle before you sew it onto the t-shirt
